Responsible for strategic oversight of the Diversity & Inclusion implementation plans for NPC and the Novartis Group of Companies in the United States in support of the Novartis-wide D&I strategy. Set the strategic D&I direction within the NPC organization through collaboration and partnership with HR, senior leadership and key functions in order to embed diversity and inclusion into everything that we do and to hold all associates and leaders accountability. Ensure D&I is integrated within the overall NPC business strategy.
Build and lead an effective cross-divisional US Country D&I Leadership Team to support ongoing efforts for alignment. Coordinate and harmonize the D&I organization, programs and initiatives across all US divisions where appropriate.
Provide strategic support and input to the Global D&I Leadership Team and Global Pharma organizations to shape programs and initiatives and influence the broader adoption of best practices. Act as the US point of contact for Global D&I teams in Global Pharma and Novartis Group Companies.
This role reports to the NPC HR Head/US Country HR Head and functionally to the Global Head, D&I. The incumbent is a key member of the US Country HR Board, the Innovative Medicines Executive Committee, the Global D&I Leadership Team, and the Global Pharma D&I Team.
Develop a comprehensive, multi-faceted US D&I implementation strategy to support key US business goals and objectives by:
o Ensuring the D&I strategy for NPC and US Novartis Group Companies is in alignment and supports the Global D&I strategy through collaboration and ongoing partnership with the Global D&I Leadership Team. Together, identify best in class initiatives benefiting all Novartis companies.
o Establishing and leading a cross-divisional US Country D&I Leadership Team
o Developing a cross-divisional governance structure for, and oversight of key D&I Champions (Employee Resource Groups, Diversity & Inclusion Councils to ensure alignment with business objectives and the Global D&I strategy).
Establish a consistent external communication strategy across all divisions in order to increase awareness internally and externally of our D&I strategy; ensure communication channels are current and effective.
o Work with the US Country HR Board (as a member) and US Country D&I Leadership Team to establish, develop and implement a D&I communication strategy in line with Global and Country D&I strategic goals
o Coordinate cross-divisional internal D&I communications associated with key change and engagement initiatives
o Establish and manage relationships with key external stakeholder on country-related D&I issues or programs
o Act as the central point of contact and spokesperson for external D&I communications and media requests
o Identify, develop and foster relationships with industry thought leaders, consultants, vendors and partners to enhance Novartis brand as a diversity leader and employer of choice.
o Centrally manage US data reporting and data submission for US recognition programs (e.g. Diversity Inc., Working Mother, etc.)
Lead the D&I strategy for NPC.
o Partner with the NPC President, NPC HR Head, Innovative Medicines Executive Committees, US Pharma Executive Committee, senior leadership teams, and HR Leadership. Provide strategic counsel and leadership to key members of these forums.
o Drive engagement, execution, visibility and accountability in setting strategy and direction for the key business and HR leadership teams, developing goals and implementing best practices to help ensure that the organization achieves its diversity and inclusion goals.
o Research, benchmark, develop and deliver industry-leading enterprise diversity strategies, training and programs to attain strategic business objectives and to drive diversity, inclusion, employee engagement and cultural change within the NPC organization.
o Monitor and assess existing D&I programs and initiatives by developing effective tracking methods that evaluate the impact of the programs and help to increase effectiveness through change.
o Identify, design and execute diversity related metrics to address core talent and business issues and guide a forward-looking strategy.
o Ensure compliance with obligations to Novartis as a federal contractor.
o Actively partner with key functions, including:
NBS to align on Supplier Diversity goals and initiatives
Legal on the development of NPC Affirmative Action Plans and all government compliance reporting to ensure that all policies and practices align with EEO and OFFCP Requirements.
Legal and Ethics & Compliance (as appropriate) to ensure that all programs and initiatives are consistent with current legal and regulatory requirements.
HR Business Partners, HR Centers of Expertise and NBS to architect and deliver against a broad, enterprise wide diversity strategy integrated in core people process such as leadership and talent development, talent reviews, staffing and recruiting, employee relations and compensation.

Education (minimum/desirable): Bachelor s Degree with emphasis in Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion, or related field. Masters or Advanced Degree in Business Administration, Organizational Development, Law or other related discipline preferred.
Languages: Fluent English
A minimum of 10 15 years of progressive D&I and/or HR experience, or relevant Legal or commercial experience
Understanding of key employment law issues, key compliance EEO, and AA obligations, and relevant employment laws; expertise in this area is preferred
In depth knowledge of D&I best practices, initiatives, and programs and demonstrated success in planning and executing them within organizations
Significant healthcare experience or understanding of the pharmaceutical industry, including business cycle, key business and regulatory issues, and KOLs (or demonstrated agility to learn quickly)
Working knowledge of the company and its affiliates as well as all application guidelines, laws and regulations is preferred.
Experience leading cross-functional teams in highly matrixed organizations; knowledge and experience of US market
Proven track record successfully managing cultural and organizational change

External Focus: Ability to engage credibly with external diversity & inclusion KOLs and customers, and appropriately represent NPC to a wide variety of audiences.
Communication: Excellent communication, writing and relationship building ability, including public presentations
Cultural Awareness: Ability to work across cultures and display cultural sensitivity
People Leadership: Ability to lead and inspire a high-preforming team and ensure readiness through a targeted focus on skills and capability development
