The intern in the Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetic (DMPK) Translational Research group at TCAL will identify and quantify novel biomarkers of pathway modulation including metabolites, lipids and proteins using orbitrap and triple-quadrupole mass spectrometry.
  • Perform basic laboratory functions including sample handling, buffer preparation, enzymatic reactions, liquid-liquid extraction, solid phase extraction, derivatization and gel separation
  • Develop chromatographic methods including reverse phase chromatography and strong cation exchange, and develop mass spectrometric methods
  • Execute differential and statistical analysis of mass spectrometry data to identify and quantify biomarkers of disease, pathway modulation, and efficacy.
  • Perform pathway analysis to map changes in metabolic/ biological pathways and lead to mechanistic understanding of the disease and drug efficacy
  • Keep an accurate, comprehensible, concise notebook in accordance with company policy


  • Undergraduate student in good academic standing with a major in Analytical Chemistry, Protein Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacology, or related fields (Second or Third year students preferred)
  • Ideal candidate should have an excellent academic record and hands-on laboratory work experience
  • Highly motivated with a strong interest in translational research and quantitative analysis
  • Students must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Expected hours: 10 - 20 hours while school is in session; up to 40 hours during school breaks
  • Candidates with knowledge/ experience in mass spectrometry and chromatography are preferred.
