As an Alliance Manager working on the Oncology Drug Discovery Unit, you will be empowered to create and maintain current and transparent project work plans and , build and maintain strong relationships with external partners and a typical day will include:

POSITION OBJECTIVES:
  • Manage dynamic discovery-stage alliances with highly innovative external partners in the area of Immuno-Oncology
  • Collaborate with ODDU (Oncology Drug Discovery Unit) scientists and Takeda partners (Center for External Innovation, Global Alliance Management, Portfolio Management, Legal, Operations) to optimize alliance planning, support, and delivery on goals
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Lead the launch and management of multiple alliances, working with Joint Scientific Committees. JSC members will include scientists and/or executives representing Takeda and the alliance partners. Ensure that all joint committees have shared goals, expectations, operating principles, and performance metrics.
  • Work with scientific management and project leaders to create and maintain current and transparent project workplans and reports
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners through constructive, timely communication
  • Track and manage alliance research deliverables and ensure optimal resourcing
  • Independently liaise cross-functionally to support alliance goals and resolve issues limiting scientific execution
  • Monitor contractual obligations and deliverables for both Takeda and its alliance partner to ensure responsibilities are met. Lead process for revising contractual agreements as necessary
  • (For AD role) Support and coach others playing an alliance manager role, scientists supporting partnerships, and governance team members, to continuously develop partnering best-practices
  • (For AD role) Contribute to the development of tools and training to improve effectiveness of ODDU Portfolio and Alliance Management

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • BS and 8 years, or advanced degree and 5+ years of Alliance Management experience including complex projects
  • Strong scientific background, relevant to Oncology drug discovery / technology
  • Strong organization, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills (oral and writing) are essential
  • Ability to act independently while practicing the team concept
  • Ability to perform within an international pharmaceutical company shaped by multiple cultural perspectives, and collaborate effectively with diverse partner organizations
  • Broad knowledge and experience with contracting processes

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Alliance / project management credentials a plus
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Travel (including international) to collaborator sites
  • Occasional scientific conferences
  • Occasional on-site / off-hours telecommunication
