To effectively manage and support U.S. Federal, State, and International internal reporting and external compliance for corporate income, franchise and local tax compliance. Support includes related financial reporting, forecasting processes and day to day operations. The position will focus on the U.S. Manufacturing Operations (located in North Carolina and New Hampshire) in the fulfillment of local, regional and global responsibilities which includes supporting both tax and transfer pricing outcomes.
Position reports to Associate Director of Tax at Novo Nordisk Inc. (“NNI”). This position will have oversight and act as tax key point of contact for U.S. Manufacturing Operations. As part of NNI Finance, continual interaction with line of business personnel at local operations as well as well as Global Service Center (“GSC”) in Bangalore, India, regional affiliates and headquarters tax. Position will interact with external auditors, tax advisors and outside professionals as necessary.
Oversight: Gain an understanding of Novo Nordisk local, regional and global operations and functions with a focus on the U.S. Manufacturing Operations and product supply (“PS”) chain. Regular visits to manufacturing sites to cultivate relationships and actively engage with all PS colleagues about tax consequences of U.S. PS operations. Manage U.S. PS expansion tax projects including cost segregation, R&D deduction, cost capitalization, interest capitalization, and R&D tax credit.
Transfer Pricing: Ownership of U.S. operating margin targets as required by “arms-length” standards or Advance Pricing Agreement (“APA”) in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley controls. Assist with internal and external transfer pricing reporting in a timely and accurate manner including completion of forecasted and actual calculations and setting of transfer prices. Ensure proper and timely accounting for monthly intercompany service revenue and related account reconciliations. Identify and advise on transfer pricing challenges and support APA renewals, as required.
Tax Planning: Monitor, analyze, and communicate impacts of tax law changes to appropriate stakeholders. Implement changes that result from legislative updates into current processes. Assist stakeholders with tax research and formal documentation as required.
Tax Compliance: Responsible for preparation of U.S. Corporate separate company Federal (e.g. Form 1120), State income and franchise, and International (Form 1042, 5472, etc.) filings as well as estimates and extensions for all U.S. manufacturing companies and other affiliates. Support preparation of Novo Nordisk U.S. Consolidated Federal and State filings. Responsible for preparation of all supporting workpapers (permanent differences, and timing differences as well as state adjustments) and research for all PS companies and other affiliates. Responsible for U.S. Federal, State and local tax credit and incentive calculations for all U.S. manufacturing companies and other affiliates. Support and manage tax audits and inquiries.
Tax Accounting: Responsible for U.S. manufacturing monthly, interim and annual tax reporting and forecasts, including annual accrual to return “true-up” entries and monthly tax account reconciliations. Responsible for appropriate documentation of tax calculations and addressing inquiries of internal stakeholders and external financial auditors for all U.S. manufacturing companies and other affiliates. Ensure all tax accounting activities are completed in a manner compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and the NNI internal control environment.
Processes and Policies: Support ad hoc projects as required by local, regional or global stakeholders. Assist with the maintenance and update of process documentation for all responsibilities. Identify, recommend and assist in implementation of process and policy improvements to ensure “best in class” internal and external tax and financial compliance. Serve as daily contact for internal stakeholders in regard to matters concerning assigned responsibilities, as required.
Approximately 25% overnight travel, including international travel. Overnight travel includes one week per month at manufacturing site in Clayton, NC as well as visits to site in West Lebanon, NH.
- A Bachelor’s Degree required in Accounting or Finance. CPA is strongly preferred. Advanced degree preferred
- A minimum of 5 years Corporate tax experience with ideal candidate having a balance of both public accounting and private industry experience
- Industrial Products and/or Pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills; strong attention to detail. The ability to work independently on complex tax issues with knowledge of applicable rules and requirements
- Proficiency in tax technology as well as MS Office products with a high aptitude for databases and spreadsheets for use in tax applications. Knowledge of SAP is desirable. Knowledge of CorpTax Compliance is desirable

- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced matrix environment
